Samvera Connect 2017 was held at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, hosted by Northwestern University partnering with University of Michigan Libraries. The conference attracted nearly 200 people from over 90 institutions who led, presented and attended some 70 different workshops, presentations and breakouts. The program details for this conference have disappeared from the web although the slide decks and posters survived. The descriptions of the works here have been gleaned from the proposals made to the conference Program Committee.
Samvera Virtual Connect (SVC), formerly known as Hydra Virtual Connect, is an opportunity for Samvera Community participants to gather online to touch base on the progress of community efforts at a roughly halfway point between face-to-face Samvera Connect meetings. Samvera is a growing, active community with many initiatives taking place across interest groups, working groups, local and collaborative development projects, and other efforts, and it can be difficult for community members to keep up with all of this activity on a regular basis. SVC will give the Samvera community a chance to come together to catch up on developments, make new connections, and re-energize itself towards Samvera Connect 2017 in Evanston in November. The 2017 Samvera Virtual Connect event builds on the success of last year's inaugural Hydra Virtual Connect 2016.
The Hydra logo that was the branding for the Hydra Project throughout most of its existence under that name. It was dropped when the Community changed name to Samvera in order to avoid a trademark dispute.
Following the change of name from the Hydra Project to Samvera, the Steering Group commissioned a set of logo designs for the community. Of those submitted, the tree, in autumn colors, was the clear favorite. This logo went into use mid-2017. The Samvera logo is a registered trade mark in the USA and is the subject of trademark applications in Canada, the UK and the EU.
