31. Hyrax and Archivematica: central to implementing digital preservation workflows

Description:
The University of Hull has been partnering with CoSector to develop and implement a digital preservation infrastructure for the management of a digital archive for the UK City of Culture 2017. The infrastructure is based on a combination of systems that do they do best, with Hyrax and Archivematica central to the overall workflow. Following development in 2019, this talk provides an update on implementation of the infrastructure and reports on the lessons learned from turning an idea into practical reality. 33. Samvera for AULs: how the Samvera Community can be part of your digital strategy

* A knowledge of the Samvera Community, how it is structured and how it operates * A detailed appreciation of the Samvera vision statement and key elements within this to showcase how they can be of benefit to a library's strategic planning and delivery * An understanding of the ways in which library staff can engage and benefit from participation in the Samvera Community, exploring the benefits of broader involvement with colleagues beyond a local library * An insight into the ways that technical developments within the Samvera Community can support digital strategy * An appreciation of the ways that Samvera can support digital content management requirements and connect different areas of library activity The aim of this workshop is to provide a space where senior staff involved in strategic planning can be introduced to Samvera and the Community, to hear about how Samvera can make a positive contribution to their digital strategy and how to make this work for them and their staff. The content of the workshop will be akin to the Introduction to Samvera session that has run before, but will be additional to this and focused specifically on addressing the strategic benefits that AUL and senior staff in organisations seek when engaging with external initiatives. Attendees are encouraged to make use of this workshop to discover what makes Samvera tick and how this can align with local strategic planning. Alongside content delivery there will be a focus on discussion and questions to help identify what the Samvera Community can offer, and what it needs to offer, to meet local requirements. 38. Archiving Hull City of Culture: linking Hyrax and Archivematica

Description:
This talk will present a project at the University of Hull, working with CoSector and Cottage Labs, to create a permanent digital archive of the Hull City of Culture. Hull was awarded UK City of Culture for 2017 and, throughout the year, generated a wealth of digital material documenting the events and activities celebrating the city, as well as archives from the organization and evaluation of the event. The University of Hull, already an active user of Samvera technologies, wanted to build on the work done for the Jisc ‘Filling the Digital Preservation Gap’ by using Archivematica for the digital archives preservation pipeline and Hyrax as a showcase for the City of Culture. We will also talk about how the project was originally conceived, and how that has changed through active and engaged project meetings to reflect ongoing service needs for the management of digital archives, of which the City of Culture archive forms a part. Integration with CALM (archives management solution ) and the existing Hull History Centre Blacklight catalogue (developed by DCE) is being explored to create a fully integrated digital archiving solution.
