Samvera Virtual Connect (SVC), is an opportunity for Samvera Community participants to gather online to touch base on the progress of community efforts at a roughly halfway point between face-to-face Samvera Connect meetings. Samvera is a growing, active community with many initiatives taking place across interest groups, working groups, local and collaborative development projects, and other efforts, and it can be difficult for community members to keep up with all of this activity on a regular basis. SVC will give the Samvera community a chance to come together to catch up on developments, make new connections, and re-energize itself towards Samvera Connect 2018 in Salt Lake City in October.
Hydra Virtual Connect (HVC) is an opportunity for Hydra Project participants to gather online to touch base on the progress of community efforts at a roughly halfway point between face-to-face Hydra Connect meetings. Hydra is a growing, active community with many initiatives taking place across interest groups, working groups, local and collaborative development projects, and other efforts, and it can be difficult for community members to keep up with all of this activity on a regular basis. HVC will give the Hydra community a chance to come together to catch up on developments, make new connections, and re-energize itself towards Hydra Connect 2016 in Boston in October. Suggestions for an event such as this have come from a number of members of the Hydra community, and the idea was further discussed and refined at the Hydra Power Steering meeting in March 2016.
Samvera Virtual Connect (SVC), formerly known as Hydra Virtual Connect, is an opportunity for Samvera Community participants to gather online to touch base on the progress of community efforts at a roughly halfway point between face-to-face Samvera Connect meetings. Samvera is a growing, active community with many initiatives taking place across interest groups, working groups, local and collaborative development projects, and other efforts, and it can be difficult for community members to keep up with all of this activity on a regular basis. SVC will give the Samvera community a chance to come together to catch up on developments, make new connections, and re-energize itself towards Samvera Connect 2017 in Evanston in November. The 2017 Samvera Virtual Connect event builds on the success of last year's inaugural Hydra Virtual Connect 2016.
What is Samvera Connect? Samvera Connect (formerly Hydra Connect) is a chance for the Samvera Community to gather in one place at one time, with an emphasis on synchronizing efforts, technical development, plans, and community links. The meeting program is aimed at existing users, managers and developers and at new folks who may be just "kicking the tires" on Samvera and who want to know more. Samvera advertises this yearly conference with the slogan "as a Samvera Partner or user, if you can only make it to one Samvera meeting this academic year, this is the one to attend! " This collection holds sub-collections of materials from each of these annual conferences.
Hydra Connect 2016 was hosted by the Boston Public Library, Northeastern University, WGBH, DPLA, and Tufts University. More than 260 people from some 70 different institutions attended the event held at the Boston Public Library.
164 people from some 45 institutions and companies attended Hydra Connect #2 held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio from Tuesday 30th September - Friday 3rd October, 2014.
Since its inception in 2008, Samvera (previously the Hydra Project) has had a number of logos, both for the Community itself and for its various initiatives. Most of these logos have had a serious purpose, some have been more flippant. Most of them have, at one time or another, been available on our sought-after hex stickers. We've tried to gather them here and provide some context for each. We've also tried to track down some of the marketing materials and artifacts they were used on. Each year we commission a new design for our conference t-shirt. You'll also find a record of those here!
How can we include user experience [UX] best practices in Hydra's core development work? How can UX experts contribute effectively to the Hydra project? How can we ensure that decisions around elements that affect the user experience are based on good evidence? Through case studies and facilitated discussion, this panel will seek to demonstrate and explore how to better integrate end-user feedback into the Hydra development stream. Dave McCallum from the University of Oregon explores issues of accessibility and the user experience. Jenn Colt from Cornell University and Sonya Betz from the University of Alberta will facilitate an active discussion around building UX into Hydra development workflows, and will ask participants to suggest strategies for including real users and their feedback in design and development decisions. As a manager, one of the biggest challenges when starting any project (Hydra, or otherwise) is feeling comfortable that you’ve asked all the right questions before the first development hour is logged. But what are the right questions? And once you begin, how do you ensure that you, your developers and your stakeholders remain on the same page throughout the course of the engagement? This presentation will explore two processes that DCE employs to tackle these concerns, A partial audio recording of a presentation at Hydra Connect 2016 described thus, and the Scoping Phase and the Inception Deck. We'll explore how these to practices work to consolidate project expectations and fend-off wild assumptions, helping you to feel confident that when everyone says ‘circle,’ no one is picturing a square.

Sipity, long the envy of the Hydra community, has support for multiple, configurable complex workflows. At it's heart is a state machine, which allows users with certain roles to take actions which trigger notifications, and custom code. I'll demonstrate how we've brought this to CurationConcerns.
