5. Archiving Hull City of Culture: linking Hyrax and Archivematica

Description:
This talk will present a project at the University of Hull, working with CoSector and Cottage Labs, to create a permanent digital archive of the Hull City of Culture. Hull was awarded UK City of Culture for 2017 and, throughout the year, generated a wealth of digital material documenting the events and activities celebrating the city, as well as archives from the organization and evaluation of the event. The University of Hull, already an active user of Samvera technologies, wanted to build on the work done for the Jisc ‘Filling the Digital Preservation Gap’ by using Archivematica for the digital archives preservation pipeline and Hyrax as a showcase for the City of Culture. We will also talk about how the project was originally conceived, and how that has changed through active and engaged project meetings to reflect ongoing service needs for the management of digital archives, of which the City of Culture archive forms a part. Integration with CALM (archives management solution ) and the existing Hull History Centre Blacklight catalogue (developed by DCE) is being explored to create a fully integrated digital archiving solution. 10. Samvera for AULs: how the Samvera Community can be part of your digital strategy

* A knowledge of the Samvera Community, how it is structured and how it operates * A detailed appreciation of the Samvera vision statement and key elements within this to showcase how they can be of benefit to a library's strategic planning and delivery * An understanding of the ways in which library staff can engage and benefit from participation in the Samvera Community, exploring the benefits of broader involvement with colleagues beyond a local library * An insight into the ways that technical developments within the Samvera Community can support digital strategy * An appreciation of the ways that Samvera can support digital content management requirements and connect different areas of library activity The aim of this workshop is to provide a space where senior staff involved in strategic planning can be introduced to Samvera and the Community, to hear about how Samvera can make a positive contribution to their digital strategy and how to make this work for them and their staff. The content of the workshop will be akin to the Introduction to Samvera session that has run before, but will be additional to this and focused specifically on addressing the strategic benefits that AUL and senior staff in organisations seek when engaging with external initiatives. Attendees are encouraged to make use of this workshop to discover what makes Samvera tick and how this can align with local strategic planning. 14. Capturing the UK City of Culture: bringing Hyrax and Archivematica together to deliver preservation and access workflows

Description:
over 150,000 items in total. The University of Hull is contributing to the long-term legacy of the year through the development of a digital archive to capture, record and make available the material generated. This has been undertaken through the combination of a repository, using Samvera’s Hyrax, with related tools, A presentation at the Open Repositories 2019 conference in Hamburg, Germany, described thus, Hull in the UK was awarded the title of UK City of Culture for 2017. Over 2,800 events, attracting a total of 5.3 million people, took place over the course the year, a vast cultural undertaking. This cultural celebration generated many digital, and physical, artefacts, from the business documents of the organising company through to models of works by artists and data from evaluation of the impact of the year, and Archivematica for preservation processing, Box as an interim store, CALM for archives cataloguing, and Blacklight for presentation and discovery – each doing what they do best and being combined to best overall effect. This presentation will describe the work to create this infrastructure in partnership with a repository vendor, CoSector, and consider the ways in which the architecture, now completed, can be applied to other use cases, both archival and repository-related, beyond the specific one for which it was built.

16. Hydra for Managers Workshop

A workshop given at the 2014 Open Repositories held in Helsinki. The Hydra for Managers workshop will enable repository managers and curators of digital collections to learn about the Hydra Project, encompassing both the community and the technical development. Focusing on the community primarily, topics covered will include an exploration of how Hydra fits local use cases, how to work with Hydra as a repository, and how to engage with the community to serve local needs and the sustainability Hydra going forward. The workshop will run for 90 minutes and will comprise a mixture of presentations and time to discuss questions raised by attendees. The workshop will be led by established Hydra Partners with different perspectives on using Hydra from differently-sized institutions.
